The Regional Environmental Engineer (REE) role focuses on ensuring water compliance at AWS data centers. The position involves providing technical expertise in various water-related environmental compliance areas, including permitting and monitoring. The AWS Environmental team is responsible for the environmental planning and operational compliance of global infrastructure projects. The REE will work closely with stakeholders to integrate regulatory requirements into site design and operations.

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or a related technical field.
• Experience with NPDES and industrial wastewater permitting and compliance.
• Experience developing or implementing water-quality sampling and monitoring programs.
• Master's degree in engineering or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of potable water and septic/onsite wastewater treatment systems.
• Experience with industrial wastewater treatment and local industrial-user permits.
• Experience reviewing civil, mechanical, plumbing, and process designs for compliance.
• Strong analytical, technical-writing, communication, relationship-building, influencing, and negotiation skills.

• Lead water compliance programs for water supply and discharge across US data center locations.
• Develop and maintain the water compliance program for NPDES and other water discharge permits.
• Provide guidance on evaluating regulatory applicability and permitting requirements.
• Evaluate industrial wastewater and stormwater permitting and compliance.
• Provide technical guidance on potable water systems and onsite wastewater systems.
• Develop standard templates and technical guidance for water-quality sampling and monitoring plans.
• Evaluate water and wastewater treatment processes and system performance.
• Build mechanisms and metrics to track water-quality data and compliance performance.
• Read and evaluate engineering plans and partner with design and operations teams.
• Communicate the technical and regulatory basis for environmental requirements.
• Set standards and oversight mechanisms for compliance with environmental requirements.
• Support interactions with regulatory agencies and emergency response planning.
• Develop and deliver water compliance training for relevant staff.
• Stay current with evolving water regulations and industry best practices.
