Job description
This role at Apple involves working extensively with micro-architects to define micro-architecture and perform design feasibility studies. The main focus is on driving RTL-to-GDS design convergence through optimizations targeting power, performance, and area (PPA). The position requires collaboration with internal teams to enhance CPU design methodologies and improve silicon yield. The successful candidate will engage in cross-functional efforts to address various aspects of CPU design, including floorplan, timing, and reliability.
Requirements
- Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in designing and optimizing CPU micro-architectures by collaborating with RTL teams.
- Ability to analyze trade-offs for CPU micro-architectural features across performance, area, timing, power, and complexity metrics.
- Experience in implementing structured data-path designs using industry-standard synthesis flows.
- Knowledge of generating comprehensive timing constraints for synthesis, PnR, and STA tools.
Responsibilities
- Work with micro-architects to define micro-architecture and perform design feasibility studies.
- Drive RTL-to-GDS design convergence through microarchitecture and logic optimizations.
- Design block-level delivery and closure of backend flows while improving silicon yield.
- Collaborate with internal CAD and PD methodology teams on synthesis/PNR tool features.
- Execute floor-planning strategies and optimize power grid distribution for CPU designs.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
