Job description

Amazon is seeking Software Development Engineers to build a global benefits platform that will support over 2 million employees and their families. The team, Benefits Experience Technology (BXT), is focused on creating an AI-native, configuration-driven core that allows for rapid deployment of benefits across various countries. Engineers will have the opportunity to shape the platform from its early stages, contributing to foundational decisions and building systems that improve themselves. This role offers a unique chance to work on a project that will have a lasting impact on Amazon's benefits infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards and operations
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience building and operating distributed, event-driven systems on AWS
  • Experience building new platforms or services from the ground up
  • Experience making systems configuration-driven or rules-driven
  • Experience launching software internationally or across multiple regulatory jurisdictions
  • Experience owning platform or foundational services with internal engineering teams as customers
  • Experience using LLM-based development tooling as part of a production engineering workflow
  • Experience driving continuous delivery adoption or automated test generation
  • Experience building or operating self-improving, agent-driven development loops
  • Experience in benefits, HR tech, fintech, healthcare, or payroll domains

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and launch platform services and major components across the full lifecycle.
  • Build the configuration-driven core to model eligibility, coverage, and enrollment rules.
  • Build capabilities that act for hundreds of thousands of employees at once.
  • Contribute to building and evolving the recursively self-improving loop.
  • Build simulation testing infrastructure that validates changes against realistic populations.
  • Solve difficult distributed-systems problems in a high-volume event-driven platform.
  • Launch into new markets and new populations, partnering with upstream and downstream teams.
  • Build the AI-native foundations the team runs on, including continuous delivery.
  • Own platform-quality APIs and ensure clear contracts and backward compatibility.
  • Own operational excellence for what you build, including alarms and telemetry.
  • Mentor and teach other engineers, using code review as a teaching mechanism.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
