Job description

The Senior Failure Analysis Engineer for Opto-Mechanical Modules at Google will focus on end-to-end failure analysis investigations for next-generation Light Engine Assemblies. This role is part of Google's XR team, which is pioneering the integration of AI and XR technologies. The engineer will work on diagnosing component failures and collaborating with various engineering teams to implement solutions. The position requires expertise in optoelectronic modules and advanced failure analysis techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in a failure analysis role for displays or semiconductor modules.
  • Experience with optoelectronic modules, including working principles, manufacturing and assembly, testing and characterization, and failure modes.
  • Experience operating physical failure analysis tools such as SEM/EDX, FIB, X-ray, and optical microscopy.

Responsibilities

  • Support end-to-end failure analysis investigations for next-generation Light Engine Assemblies.
  • Analyze and diagnose component failures originating from NPI builds, reliability qualification testing, production excursions, and field returns.
  • Perform lab analysis using advanced techniques, including electrical testing, optical setups, and various microscopy methods.
  • Define and standardize failure analysis workflows and fault isolation procedures.
  • Collaborate with design, process, and quality teams to implement root-cause solutions and corrective actions.
