Job description
The Senior Optical Health Sensing Engineer role at Google focuses on developing custom silicon solutions for wearable products. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4 years of experience working on optical sensor design.
- Experience in scripting and data analysis using Python or MATLAB.
- Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with hardware bring-up, bench characterization, and oscilloscope/spectrometer lab equipment.
- Proficiency in optical modeling and simulation software such as Zemax, LightTools, TracePro, or FRED.
- Strong understanding of photoplethysmography (PPG) fundamentals, tissue optics, and photodetector/LED physics.
Responsibilities
- Model and simulate light-tissue interactions to optimize optical paths and engagement depth.
- Author Engineering Requirements Specifications for PPG optical subsystems.
- Drive component selection and custom development for LEDs, photodiode arrays, and optical filters.
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineering and Product Design teams on schematic reviews and mechanical packaging.
- Lead benchtop bring-up, optical characterization, and dynamic range extension validation.
- Define and implement factory test requirements and optical calibration methodologies.
- Lead root-cause failure analysis during development builds and drive corrective actions for yield regressions.
