The Senior Principal Engineer, API Tooling & Automation is a strategic technical leader focused on driving architecture, automation, and modernization initiatives within the API and digital technology landscape. This role requires a visionary expert who can enhance developer productivity and operational efficiency through advanced tooling solutions, including AI/ML-driven automation. The engineer will work independently to define technical strategy, mentor engineers, and collaborate with senior stakeholders to align technical solutions with Citi's technology vision. The position emphasizes risk management, financial optimization, and stakeholder engagement.

• 10+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in Enterprise Architecture, Software Engineering, or Platform Engineering within a large-scale enterprise environment.
• Demonstrated subject matter expertise in architecting, securing, and stabilizing complex, high-volume API platforms.
• Proven track record of designing and implementing automated solutions for risk reduction and operational efficiency.
• Broad technical knowledge across cloud platforms, internet frameworks, and mobile paradigms.
• Exceptional communication, diplomatic, and negotiation skills.
• High level of self-motivation and independent work style.
• Bachelor’s/University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline; Master’s degree preferred.

• Drive the long-term technical strategy and architecture of critical technology platforms.
• Lead the design and implementation of innovative, next-generation solutions.
• Serve as a key member of the Design Review Board to establish architectural best practices.
• Strengthen platform governance and compliance by establishing robust credential management workflows.
• Oversee production deployment support processes and manage critical pipeline migrations.
• Proactively identify, mitigate, and resolve daily operational risks.
• Lead significant initiatives to optimize infrastructure utilization and reduce operational overhead.
• Define and implement advanced quota and rate-limit optimizations.
• Engage with diverse stakeholders to drive consensus and influence technical decisions.
• Act as an advisor, coach, and mentor to junior engineers and architects.
• Contribute to community advocacy by representing Citi at industry conferences and events.
