Job description

The Sensing Product Design team at Apple is seeking a talented mechanical engineer to develop innovative touch sensing systems that enhance user interaction with technology. This role involves working within a multifunctional team to create design concepts and ensure the successful integration of sensing technology into Apple products. The engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and validation of these systems, contributing to products that impact millions of users. The position emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and technical expertise in mechanical design.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in mechanical design, failure analysis, or product validation.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and drafting 2D technical drawings (GD&T).
  • Strong track record of applying structured root-cause methodologies and experimental design (DOE) to resolve complex electromechanical issues.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally (5%–10%) to support vendor bring-up and factory builds.
  • Minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

  • Specify, develop, characterize, and validate touch sensing systems.
  • Own the end-to-end design, development, and validation of sensing technology.
  • Work with a multifunctional team to generate design concepts.
  • Conduct engineering analysis and documentation for the project.
  • Articulate trade-offs and recommendations clearly through excellent communication skills.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
