Job description

The Data Center Plant Engineer, Controls role at Google focuses on maintaining and improving the efficiency of data center systems. The team is responsible for operating sophisticated electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. This position involves troubleshooting critical systems and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards. The engineer will also collaborate with design engineers to enhance infrastructure and technology.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field.
  • 7 years of experience in Controls/Automation in an industrial or commercial environment.
  • Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs of equipment.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair data center systems, including servers and network equipment.
  • Provide effective leadership for successful critical system troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Respond to critical data center events and alarms, acting as a point of escalation on operational issues.
  • Monitor plant efficiency metrics at a data center and drive site-level programs.
  • Interact with design engineers to bring an operational mindset to discussions around new infrastructure.
