Job description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be part of the Grocery Retail and In-Store Experience team at Amazon, focusing on designing hardware that enhances the shopping experience. This role involves taking ownership of in-store intelligence hardware projects and collaborating with electrical, software, and computer vision engineers. The engineer will define requirements, design mechanical sub-systems, and drive products from concept to volume manufacturing. This position offers the opportunity to shape products that millions of customers interact with in stores.
Requirements
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Experience with Engineering Methods for Analysis, including FEA, DFMEA, and statistical tools.
- Experience with thermal analysis, product validation, and materials process validation.
- Experience in engaging, working with, and managing vendors and suppliers in a fast-paced technical environment.
- Experience designing with plastic injection molding and tooling.
- Experience with project management of technical projects.
- System design interfacing to a wide array of electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical sub-systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of sub-systems and components through the full product development lifecycle.
- Define and execute test plans that validate designs against functional, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
- Create and maintain detailed design documentation for design reviews and manufacturing handoff.
- Manage technical relationships with contract manufacturers and component suppliers.
- Mentor junior engineers on design best practices and review their work.
