As a member of Rivian's Vehicle Hardware Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in developing innovative products from concept to volume production. The focus will be on creating sustainable and high-performing parts while fostering a culture of trust and continuous improvement. You will collaborate closely with the product development team and engage in advanced materials development, emphasizing sustainability and durability. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and strong communication skills to manage complex projects and vendor relationships.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar field.
• 1-3+ years of materials development industry experience is preferred.
• Experience in automotive plastics, deco materials, polymeric films, fabrics, composites, and natural fibers.
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects and vendors simultaneously.
• Excellent communication skills for effective interaction across various sites and time zones.
• Strong problem-solving skills using a first-principles approach.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented in documentation and data management.
• Eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment.
• Sound commercial and financial awareness.
• Proficiency in Google Suite.
• Willingness to travel up to 10%, including weekends and extended periods.

• Drive material prototyping and development in partnership with the product development team.
• Complete engineering approval of program materials as part of the Materials Engineering Validation process.
• Author Rivian Materials Standards and Rivian Testing Specifications.
• Lead advanced materials development with a focus on sustainability initiatives, improved durability, and cleanability.
• Conduct root cause analysis for ongoing production issues related to materials, collaborating directly with Tiers and Materials Vendors.
• Provide materials modeling inputs for digital validation.
• Work in conjunction with Supplier Quality Engineering and Purchasing teams for supplier development.
• Demonstrate curiosity and high learning agility.
