Job description

The Senior Highway Engineer position at Jacobs involves leading complex transportation infrastructure projects in Pennsylvania. This role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions while ensuring technical excellence. The engineer will serve as a design lead and client-facing engineer, guiding projects from planning through construction support. Mentorship of junior engineers and maintaining client relationships are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania
  • Advanced proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
  • Substantial progressive experience in transportation engineering with a strong focus on highway/roadway design
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex highway design projects for PennDOT and/or PTC
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams, manage priorities, and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders
  • Local to Pennsylvania offices: Philadelphia or Pittsburgh

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead Highway Engineer and Engineer of Record on significant transportation projects from concept through final design and construction support.
  • Provide technical leadership for roadway geometry, interchange design, traffic control/staging, drainage, stormwater management, and erosion & sediment control.
  • Oversee and review design deliverables to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate with project managers on staffing projections, schedules, budgets, and risk management.
  • Interface directly with subconsultants, clients, reviewing agencies, and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor and guide a team of junior and mid-level engineers, fostering technical growth and quality-focused delivery.
  • Support proposal development, scope development, and technical interviews as a senior contributor to business growth.
