Job description

The Quantum Control Systems FPGA Developer Internship at IBM Quantum is designed for motivated engineering students interested in developing large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers. Interns will engage in various areas including software, firmware, FPGA development, and embedded systems. Requirements

  • Pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with Python, Jupyter Notebooks, Git, Linux, and command-line environments.
  • Experience designing or implementing digital logic on FPGAs.
  • Familiarity with HDL development such as Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
  • Experience with embedded systems and laboratory equipment.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and debug FPGA logic for quantum control and measurement systems.
  • Integrate FPGA, embedded software, and hardware components into larger quantum systems.
  • Develop software and automation tools for data collection, analysis, and lab instrumentation control.
  • Debug embedded systems, ASICs, and low-level hardware/software interactions.
  • Support qubit experiments, calibration routines, and system performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with physics, theory, hardware, PCB, ASIC, and deployment teams.
