Job description
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer - CFD will focus on front-end engineering CFD studies, mechanical system selection, and site design strategy for AWS data centers. This role is part of the Global Engineering Strategy team, which aims to deliver innovative and efficient site designs. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to ensure high standards of safety and security while optimizing costs. The position requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to drive process improvements across the organization.
Requirements
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission critical facilities such as data centers.
- Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering.
- Knowledge of continuously operating redundant electrical systems, cooling systems, air flow containment systems, and building management systems.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
- Professional Engineer License.
Responsibilities
- Perform CFD models on innovative new and existing site designs.
- Drive process improvements across the organization.
- Provide reports to senior leadership on the results of CFD models.
- Perform water efficiency use calculations to determine the quantity of water needed on site.
- Work with global ME teams to achieve alignment of design and CFD modeling standards.
- Identify key sources of high capital and operational costs in current data center mechanical systems.
- Define, scope, and participate in project and product teams focused on delivering innovations in next-generation data centers.
- Provide direct influence over the mechanical design and construction of new data centers.
- Manage total CFD project management and oversight of project scope, timeline, and budget.
- Drive teams to supply root-cause analysis and long-term corrective measures for issues that arise in data centers.
