The Principal Software Engineer - AI Powered Observability role focuses on shaping autonomous outage detection and AI-driven reliability across Microsoft at a global scale. This position is part of the Engineering Operations team, which aims to enhance operational excellence in the Microsoft Cloud. Candidates should possess deep technical expertise in MLOps and a proven ability to deliver measurable business impact. The role emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement in cloud systems.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Awareness of modern distributed software design patterns and cloud systems architecture, including microservices, containers, load-balancing, queuing, and caching.
• Experience with C#/Java/C/C++/Golang.
• Experience in building, shipping, and operating reliable solutions.
• Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), risk assessment systems, or intelligent automation solutions.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and influencing architecture, design, and engineering best practices across teams.

• Partner across multiple product groups to apply subject-matter expertise in distributed systems design practices.
• Lead by example and mentor others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.
• Develop and evangelize insights, best practices, and standards to improve system, platform, and product development.
• Drive continuous improvements in the architecture, code, features, and operations of products.
• Make improvements to product fundamentals and architecture while sharing knowledge and code.
• Provide technical leadership in test maturity reviews, static analysis reviews, and incident responses.
• Provide deep business and technical expertise to resolve major incidents.
