The Principal Software Engineer will play a key role in transforming product development at Microsoft 365 by leveraging generative AI. This position is part of the Office Shared Services and Experiences team, which focuses on building shared services and user experiences for Office applications. The engineer will work closely with product management and research to drive the adoption of AI-assisted development practices. The role emphasizes technical leadership, mentorship, and the delivery of customer-facing features while reducing engineering toil.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
• Prior experience building with Agent SDKs, large language models, or AI orchestration frameworks is preferred.
• Experience with AI-powered developer tooling and coding assistants.

• Own and deliver complete features across the development lifecycle, including design, architecture, implementation, testability, debugging, shipping, and servicing.
• Use AI-assisted development practices in daily engineering work and help teams adopt effective practices.
• Demonstrate resiliency to experiment with multiple AI approaches.
• Provide mentorship and coaching to engineers within and beyond the team.
• Write and review clean, well-thought-out code with an emphasis on quality and maintainability.
