The Design Engineer Intern will join the Apps@Research team at IBM, which focuses on building tools for researchers to enhance their work. This role emphasizes collaboration with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to create AI-native interfaces. The intern will be responsible for transforming design concepts into functional software, ensuring that the user interface reflects IBM Research's voice while incorporating their own design sensibilities. • High School Diploma or GED is required.
• A portfolio showcasing design work, including typography, layout, color, and interaction states.
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and component frameworks.
• Familiarity with design systems and experience in building or running a Storybook.

• Design and ship UI work for production applications from initial sketches to merged code.
• Extend the component library and maintain documentation to ensure reusability.
• Prototype in code to quickly deliver clickable designs to researchers.
• Collaborate with AI coding agents to improve team workflows and processes.
