The Software Engineer II position at Microsoft focuses on designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems that enable AI-powered voice agents and multimodal intelligence. This role is part of the Intelligent Conversation and Communications Cloud (IC3) team, which powers Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot. The engineer will work at the intersection of cloud-scale services, AI, and real-time communications, contributing to innovative customer-focused solutions. The position is based in Redmond, Washington, requiring in-office presence at least three days a week.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems, cloud services, or enterprise platforms.
• Experience designing reliable, highly available, and observable production services.

• Design, build, and operate highly scalable distributed services powering AI-driven communications and collaboration experiences.
• Develop next-generation platforms that extract insights and semantic understanding from voice, video, screen sharing, and meeting interactions.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, designers, and partner engineering teams to deliver innovative customer-focused solutions.
• Contribute to system architecture and technical design with a focus on scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
• Leverage modern AI technologies, agentic workflows, and cloud services to create intelligent enterprise experiences.
• Improve service health through observability, automation, incident response, and operational excellence.
• Participate in design and code reviews and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
• Take ownership of features and components from design and implementation through production deployment, operations, and customer impact.
