The Automation Controls Engineer at Rivian will focus on controls engineering for production lines at the Normal, IL facility. This role emphasizes heavy PLC programming and troubleshooting technical issues during production. The engineer will work closely with various teams to implement changes and improvements in manufacturing processes. The position requires a passion for innovation and a commitment to enhancing production efficiency and safety standards.

• 3-5 years of Controls Engineering experience or equivalent work experience.
• BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Expertise with common controls hardware components used in high-volume manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience integrating and commissioning high volume manufacturing equipment.
• In-depth knowledge of Safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA).
• Experience developing electrical schematics using EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar.
• Advanced proficiency programming industrial equipment using various IEC 61131-3 languages.

• Participate in various controls equipment buy-offs at vendor sites and Rivian’s factory.
• Continuously improve production lines by reducing cycle time and downtime.
• Maintain, modify, and properly version control equipment programs and documentation.
• Troubleshoot and improve PLCs using Ladder Logic and/or Structured Text.
• Implement and modify MES logic for production and performance management.
• Train Production and Maintenance teams in proper use of the equipment.
