The Senior Prototyping Engineer will join Amazon Leo's Prototyping and Integration Team, focusing on advanced prototype manufacturing for aerospace builds. This role involves driving CNC programming and production of precision electro-mechanical components while influencing hardware design for manufacturability. The engineer will also mentor other machinists and engineers, establish shop-wide processes, and lead continuous improvement initiatives. Success in this position requires expert-level CNC expertise and the ability to make independent technical judgments in a fast-paced environment.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent field
• 10+ years of machine shop experience operating complex CNC equipment machining precision aerospace or defense hardware
• Expert-level knowledge of HyperMILL, ESPRIT, or equivalent CAM systems, including multi-axis programming
• Expert knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• 4+ years of experience overseeing continuous improvement initiatives
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Own the most complex aerospace prototype builds end-to-end on multi-axis mills and lathes.
• Define the lab's advanced machining strategy and standardize it for quality execution.
• Partner with design engineering early in the design cycle to drive design-for-manufacturability.
• Set machining quality and throughput standards and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to machinists and prototyping engineers.
• Troubleshoot complex quality issues and drive corrective actions to root cause.
