The Machine Shop Engineer will lead the rapid prototyping shop at the Boston Development Center, focusing on precision fabrication and additive manufacturing. This role involves managing the operations of CNC machining and 3D printing while ensuring high-quality outputs that meet engineering demands. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on background in machining and programming, along with leadership experience in a high-mix, short-run environment. The position requires collaboration with design and manufacturing engineers to optimize processes and maintain quality standards.

• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience with Journeyman Machinist certification.
• 7+ years of CNC machining experience, with at least 3 years leading or managing a machine shop team.
• Proficiency with CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, NX CAM, or equivalent.
• Direct experience with 5-axis machining strategy and complex setup troubleshooting.
• Experience in prototype, high-mix, or short-run machining environments.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and precision measuring tools.
• Experience with additive manufacturing and 3D printing operations.

• Own day-to-day machine shop operations including job scheduling and resource allocation.
• Hire, develop, and manage a team of CNC machinists, programmers, and additive manufacturing technicians.
• Manage job queues across multiple engineering programs to maximize throughput and minimize lead time.
• Work with product design and manufacturing engineers to review part designs and ensure manufacturability.
• Oversee CNC programming, setup verification, and first-piece inspection.
• Manage 3D printing operations, including job scheduling and material management.
• Drive performance metrics and report shop performance to leadership.
• Ensure safety and housekeeping standards are maintained in the shop.
• Own equipment maintenance, calibration, and uptime.
