Job description

The role is for an experienced staff engineer in Netflix's Compute Runtime team, focusing on driving engineering work and innovation in cloud compute infrastructure. The team is responsible for enabling efficient and reliable container operations on compute nodes, managing Kubernetes data plane software, and collaborating with various teams to meet business needs. This position involves tackling significant technical challenges and contributing to high-scale systems that impact millions of users. The ideal candidate will lead efforts in operational excellence and stay ahead of industry trends.

Requirements

  • A proven track record of architecting and implementing large-scale distributed systems that define and modify infrastructure at 100M+ user scale.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with strong relationship-building ability.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and how to abstract away its complexities.
  • Experience with Golang, Java, and/or Python.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver compute platform capabilities and drive adoption across Netflix with a focus on engineering excellence.
  • Form strong cross-functional partnerships driven by trust and ensure solutions meet the needs of various engineering teams.
  • Set the example for operational excellence on the team and continuously improve incident response and operational practices.
  • Maintain currency on industry trends for new architectures and guide the team's decision-making on incorporating them.
  • Recognize industry trends early and develop new architectures and features while shaping the direction of technology.

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
