Job description
As a Battery Test and Validation Engineer II (Safety and Abuse) at Rivian, you will be part of a team dedicated to ensuring high-voltage battery systems meet safety, reliability, and regulatory standards. Your role will involve executing and analyzing advanced abuse test methodologies while collaborating with various engineering teams. You will be responsible for critical test streams that evaluate battery packs and modules under abuse conditions. This position requires a hands-on approach to root-cause investigations and safety countermeasure development.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred, or a related field with relevant experience.
- 2+ years of related experience in battery testing and validation.
- Strong understanding of physics and governing equations in heat transfer and electrical domains.
- Hands-on experience with battery test equipment and data analysis software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and learning agility.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel up to 30% domestically and internationally.
Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and analyze safety and abuse tests on battery modules, packs, and components.
- Develop and refine test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria in alignment with regulatory standards.
- Analyze test data and generate detailed technical reports.
- Conduct post-test reviews with cross-functional teams.
- Implement continuous improvement opportunities in test methodologies and documentation.
- Stay current with industry trends and regulatory changes in battery safety and abuse testing.
