Job description
The Senior Electrical Engineer will join the Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering team at Microsoft, which is responsible for the design and implementation of hardware infrastructure for the company's cloud services. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, efficient, and reliable hardware solutions to support Microsoft's Intelligent Cloud mission. The engineer will collaborate with various internal and external teams to ensure product functionality and performance. The position requires a strong background in electrical engineering and a passion for customer-focused solutions.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of technical engineering experience, or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and 5+ years of technical engineering experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
- 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience in system level design and/or implementation across the hardware development lifecycle.
- Experience with high volume hardware production in the server area.
- Knowledge about datacenters and operations at scale.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, and ethernet.
- In-depth experience with operating systems (Windows and/or Linux), system firmware (BIOS, BMC), and system security.
- Proven verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Experience with high-speed and high-power product design.
- 5+ years of experience developing board and system level bring-up and test plans.
- Experience executing hardware validation and functional test plans.
- 5+ years of experience debugging board and system level issues for Cloud Servers.
- Ability to work across multiple disciplines to identify risks and assess impact.
Responsibilities
- Understand customer requirements and high-level architectural design, leading electrical design execution at the system level.
- Collaborate with internal design teams and external partners for design implementation, ensuring product functionality, performance, quality, and reliability.
- Conduct complete and deep design reviews, including schematics, board files, BOM, DFT, and DFM.
- Define board level bring-up and electrical test requirements, ensuring complete coverage and execution.
- Work with partner teams to create system level bring-up and end-to-end validation test plans.
- Troubleshoot and lead hardware-related debug efforts with partner teams, driving resolution and bug reports.
