Job description
The Principal Platform Power and Performance Engineer will join the Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering team at Microsoft, focusing on enhancing the performance and efficiency of next-generation AI compute platforms. This role involves leading technical initiatives and collaborating with various engineering teams to optimize platform solutions. The engineer will analyze and improve power management and performance across hardware and software systems. The position is critical for driving industry-leading performance-per-watt and total cost of ownership for Microsoft's cloud infrastructure.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience
- 8+ years of relevant experience in compute and/or AI systems/platforms design and development
- 8+ years of experience with SoC, CPU, GPU, or AI accelerator architectures, including power management, performance analysis, memory subsystems, interconnects, power delivery, and thermal solutions
- 8+ years of experience collaborating across hardware, firmware, operating systems, silicon architecture, and validation engineering teams to deliver platform solutions
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
Responsibilities
- Lead platform power and performance strategy for next-generation Microsoft AI compute platforms
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship for a team of highly skilled engineers
- Partner with various teams to define requirements and deliver optimized platform solutions
- Drive silicon and platform power-performance architecture, including workload characterization and power management features
- Analyze and optimize interactions between silicon, power delivery, thermal solutions, and datacenter infrastructure
- Lead power-performance characterization, profiling, and benchmarking across Azure datacenter deployments
- Influence future silicon and platform roadmaps through analysis of workload behavior and performance bottlenecks
- Communicate technical strategies and recommendations to engineering leadership and executive stakeholders
