Job description

The Wallet, Payments & Commerce (WPC) team at Apple is seeking experienced engineers to build resilient and reliable distributed software systems at scale. This role involves owning complex technical problems and defining the technical direction of critical services that impact millions of users. Engineers will have the opportunity to drive creative solutions and work across all stages of the product and software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and contribute to architecture, design, and operational support.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience architecting, building, and maintaining mission-critical distributed systems at large scale.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems fundamentals and trade-offs in consistency, latency, and throughput.
  • Ability to communicate thoughtfully and clearly, both verbally and in writing, to drive consensus on complex technical concepts.
  • Deep hands-on software development expertise with Java or Kotlin and Spring.
  • Proven development and operational experience with high-volume REST and/or gRPC services.
  • Strong experience designing for containerization and orchestration, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Significant experience architecting, building, and operating cloud-native applications with resilience and failover features.
  • Expertise in designing robust CI/CD pipelines and defining infrastructure as code.
  • Extensive experience with observability strategies and tools like Prometheus and Grafana.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the challenge of building resilient and reliable distributed software systems.
  • Drive technical discussions and write specifications.
  • Mentor peers and review code to ensure quality.
  • Produce impactful documentation for technical processes.
  • Shape the architecture and design of platforms and offerings.
  • Take full ownership of solutions from conception to production.
  • Collaborate effectively across teams and disciplines to define engineering strategy.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
