Citi is seeking a Senior Java Platform Engineer to lead the development of a global check payment platform. This senior role combines hands-on Java engineering with strategic platform ownership, influencing the reliability and scalability of high-volume financial transactions. The engineer will guide a scrum team in delivering critical capabilities across the payment lifecycle while modernizing legacy components into cloud-native microservices. • 10 or more years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a people management or senior engineering leadership capacity.
• Extensive hands-on Java engineering experience in high-throughput, production environments.
• Hands-on design of microservices architectures using Spring Boot or Spring MVC.
• Deep practical expertise in Kafka, including topic design and high-throughput stream processing.
• Hands-on database engineering across Oracle, Microsoft SQL, and MongoDB.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native infrastructure including OpenShift, AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.

• Design and build production-grade Java microservices for a global check payment platform.
• Architect event-driven, fault-tolerant distributed systems using Kafka, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs.
• Define and govern data architecture across Oracle, Microsoft SQL, and MongoDB.
• Own the engineering roadmap for modernizing the check payment platform.
• Lead platform performance engineering by profiling JVM-based applications and optimizing critical processing paths.
• Embed AI-powered engineering practices across the team using tools like GitHub Copilot.
• Act as the primary engineering point of contact for the Check Processing pillar.
• Own the platform's security and compliance posture by leading threat modeling and secure design reviews.
