Job description
The Actuarial Internship program at GEICO offers a unique opportunity for students and recent graduates to engage in impactful projects that directly influence the company's growth and profitability. Interns will work alongside experienced actuaries on various analytical tasks, including reserving analysis and claim trend analysis. This role emphasizes problem-solving, analytical thinking, and effective communication, providing a solid foundation for a future career in actuarial science. Interns will also gain exposure to GEICO's business objectives and participate in networking events.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Math, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Business, Data/Business Analytics, or other relevant quantitative field of study with expected graduation by May 2028.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Must live within commutable distance from one of our offices in Bethesda, MD or Chicago, IL.
- Ability to work a hybrid schedule, including working from the office at least three days per week.
- Proven analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Intermediate skills in Excel.
- Basic proficiency with data analysis software such as R, SAS, SQL, Python, Power BI, and/or similar tooling.
Responsibilities
- Directly impact GEICO's growth and profitability by working alongside other analysts on various projects and analysis.
- Work on actuarial projects such as reserving analysis, claim trend analysis, and frequency/severity projections.
- Develop and present analysis and proposals to various stakeholder groups.
- Gain valuable real-world experience using various technical applications such as Excel, SQL, R, Snowflake, Power BI and ResQ.
- Participate in insurance, actuarial, and technical trainings.
- Be introduced to GEICO’s business objectives and initiatives through active participation in internship forums and departmental meetings.
- Participate in social and networking events.
- Have an opportunity to interview for a full-time position at the completion of the internship.
