Job description
The Systems Development Engineer will join the Unified Workcell Compute team, focusing on designing and building systems that manage Amazon's extensive edge device fleet. This hands-on role involves working with cloud infrastructure, device management, and robotics systems to deliver reliable technical solutions. The engineer will contribute to the development of resilient distributed systems and automation solutions, while also troubleshooting complex production issues. The team values operational excellence and aims to revolutionize Amazon's logistics and fulfillment operations through innovative compute management.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience with Linux operating systems or related IT experience
- 1+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language such as Python, C++, or Java
- 1+ years of experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure
- 1+ years of experience with CI/CD pipeline build processes
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain resilient, scalable distributed systems that operate at Amazon scale.
- Contribute to the technical strategy for the team's systems within the UWC architecture.
- Participate in architectural reviews and design discussions across UWC and robotics customer teams.
- Develop automation solutions using Python, Rust, CDK, and AWS services.
- Implement and optimize Linux-based systems and OS image creation pipelines.
- Create tooling and frameworks that enable robotics teams to manage their edge compute fleets.
- Apply established standards for engineering, testing, and operational excellence best practices.
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline or eliminate excess processes.
- Proactively identify and escalate risks at the product and service level.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues across the full stack.
- Partner with robotics solution teams to address their device management challenges.
- Foster the growth of peers on the team through code reviews and knowledge exchange.
- Deliver inventive, resilient, and extensible solutions for robotics teams.
- Participate in hiring and contribute to technical assessments.
