Job description

The Engineering Program Manager (EPM) role at Apple is a leadership position within the Human Interface Devices (HID) organization, responsible for overseeing the end-to-end program plan for next-generation technologies. The EPM will collaborate with firmware engineers, hardware designers, and manufacturing teams to drive product development from concept to release. This role requires a strong technical foundation in embedded firmware and software systems, as well as the ability to manage complex interdependencies across multiple teams. The EPM will also be responsible for ensuring effective communication and alignment among cross-functional partners and leadership.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of relevant engineering program management experience.
  • MS is a plus, with equivalent hands-on industry experience considered in lieu of formal degree requirements.
  • Solid technical foundation in embedded firmware and software systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing HW/FW/SW co-development programs.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain program schedules reflecting engineering complexity.
  • Strong convergence management skills with experience in bug triage and tracking.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to operate in ambiguity and clarify scope.
  • Familiarity with Agile and iterative development models.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed.
  • Demonstrates AI fluency applied to EPM work.
  • Self-directed learner in the AI space.

Responsibilities

  • Own the program plan end-to-end, including schedule creation and risk-mitigation planning.
  • Lead structured program reviews across the product development lifecycle.
  • Drive convergence with data by managing bug tracking and maintaining burn-down plans.
  • Be the communication backbone for HID core teams and cross-functional partners.
  • Identify, surface, and mitigate risk in collaboration with firmware and hardware technologists.
  • Support factory and field readiness by collaborating with factory teams during hardware build stages.
  • Build organizational clarity by setting up communication infrastructure and defect tracking structures.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
