Job description

The Manufacturing Engineer role at Rivian focuses on supporting the Body Manufacturing Engineering team in designing, launching, and improving body manufacturing systems. This position involves working on the manufacturing floor in Normal, IL, assisting senior engineers with data analysis, tooling validation, and process improvements. The engineer will play a key role in ensuring high-quality vehicle production through dimensional management and problem-solving techniques. The successful candidate will collaborate with various teams to translate complex data into actionable insights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a similar technical field.
  • Recent graduate or 1+ years of relevant experience.
  • Foundational understanding of GD&T standards and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of automotive body assembly processes such as welding, riveting, and bonding.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong desire to work in a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to support floor-level activities and troubleshoot process issues under the guidance of senior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in cross-functional development of assembly datum schemes, shim management, and adjustments to meet GD&T requirements.
  • Assist senior engineers with the design review, installation, commissioning, and validation of tooling fixtures.
  • Perform regular audits of equipment conditions and participate in troubleshooting production issues to improve tooling.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of product build issues in a data-driven manner to improve form, fit, and finish.
  • Drive improvements of body-in-white accuracy through the launch and ramp phase of the product.
  • Oversee measurement routines of inline and offline metrology systems at Rivian.
  • Assist in the analysis of dimensional data to identify trends.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of tooling certification reports, Tool Repeatability, PLP documentation, and PFMEAs.
  • Translate complex dimensional data from manufacturing issues into actionable insights for product design requirements.
