Job description
Rivian is seeking an Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer to join their team focused on providing EMC technical expertise for electric vehicle platforms. The role involves assessing electromagnetic interactions within vehicle circuits and structures, and providing design guidance for high voltage applications. As the Staff level EMC High Voltage Lead, the engineer will coordinate across multiple teams, including Energy Storage Systems and Energy Power Conversion. This position is ideal for someone passionate about the growing EV marketplace and the outdoors.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical/computer engineering or similar discipline with 5 years of work experience.
- Master's degree in electrical engineering or similar discipline with 3 years of work experience.
- PhD degree in electrical engineering or similar discipline with 1 year of work experience.
- Good understanding of electrical circuit fundamentals, including analog circuits, RLC tank circuits, transmission line theory, and switch mode power supplies.
- Good hands-on electronics debugging skills with the ability to work across organizations and teams.
- Experience with scripting languages for data analysis, such as MATLAB or Python.
- Demonstrated expertise in packaging, shielding, filtering, and harness integration for high voltage systems.
Responsibilities
- Work with hardware designers and the EMC team to develop the next generation of control electronics for Rivian vehicles.
- Develop and validate electromagnetic models to predict circuit behavior when integrated into vehicles and deployed in real-world environments.
- Test ECU and vehicle design margins in EMC laboratories.
- Develop systems engineering models for EMI Source/Victim interactions at all levels of vehicle electronics.
- Lead EMC integration of high efficiency power conversion across multiple product types, including traction inverters and onboard chargers.
- Produce PCB to system-level strategies for high voltage distribution, packaging, grounding, bonding, shielding, and filtering.
- Manage and validate EMC requirements for high voltage energy storage systems, including battery management electronics.
