Job description

The Manufacturing Engineer role at DoorDash Air focuses on building the process and tooling for the autonomous food delivery platform's first high-volume drone assembly line. The engineer will work hands-on to transition from prototype to production, addressing real-world manufacturing challenges. This position is part of a senior team dedicated to innovating drone delivery technology. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced startup environment and be passionate about solving complex manufacturing problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field
  • 5+ years of manufacturing or mechanical engineering experience in high-volume electromechanical, aerospace, robotics, or consumer hardware production
  • Hands-on experience applying Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles
  • Experience authoring and driving Process FMEA (PFMEA) for new product introduction and ongoing production
  • Experience with factory or line layout design and optimizing workstations for throughput, ergonomics, and quality
  • Experience specifying, designing, and/or sourcing assembly tooling, fixtures, and jigs
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and building processes from scratch
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across engineering, supply chain, and production
  • Familiarity with aerospace structures and electronic systems integration
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time to support contract manufacturer and supplier evaluations

Responsibilities

  • Be the first manufacturing engineer for DoorDash Air's mass-production drone assembly line from pilot build through full-rate production
  • Apply Design for Assembly (DFA) principles in partnership with hardware and electrical engineering to optimize new drone platforms for manufacturability, cost, and quality
  • Own Process FMEA (PFMEA) development to proactively identify and mitigate failure modes in assembly, test, and inspection
  • Design and iterate on factory and line layout, workstations, and material flow to support a scalable and efficient production system
  • Specify, source, and qualify assembly tooling, fixtures, and jigs while working directly with equipment vendors
  • Partner cross-functionally with design, supply chain, internal production, and contract manufacturers to troubleshoot build issues and drive continuous improvement
  • Create manufacturing processes, Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM), work instructions, and standards that scale as production volume ramps up
