Job description

The Senior Research Scientist in Farm Animal Clinical Development at Elanco will be instrumental in advancing the company's innovation pipeline for farm animal vaccines and therapeutic products. This role involves designing and executing safety and efficacy study programs while collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The position emphasizes the importance of cross-functional partnerships and effective communication with regulatory agencies. The ideal candidate will contribute to continuous improvement and technical excellence within the organization.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Sciences, Microbiology, Immunology, or a related scientific discipline, or a Bachelor's Degree with equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in veterinary clinical study design, animal health research, or vaccine/biologics product development.
  • Proven proficiency in designing host animal safety and efficacy protocols under GxP/VICH-GCP guidelines.
  • Strong project organization and cross-functional communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, author, and execute robust host animal safety and efficacy study protocols and comprehensive clinical development plans in compliance with USDA, GLP, vGCP, and VICH standards.
  • Partner with Clinical Development Sciences to evaluate, select, and monitor qualified external research facilities, investigators, and contract research organizations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Biostatistics, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Writing, and Quality Assurance to analyze, interpret, and report clinical trial data for global regulatory submissions.
  • Serve as a clinical and technical subject matter expert during regulatory agency interactions and scientific conferences.
  • Drive continuous improvement and technical excellence by updating functional procedures and mentoring less experienced colleagues.

Benefits

  • Employees at Elanco are often offered competitive compensation with annual bonus and equity eligibility, retirement plans (including a U.S. 401(k)), and comprehensive health coverage—medical, dental, vision, company-paid life and disability—and even pet insurance. Time-off and flexibility typically include generous PTO, U.S. mid-year and year-end paid shutdown weeks, parental leave, and flexible/remote work options. Employees also benefit from strong development programs (onboarding, course libraries, mentorship, nine ERGs, and tiered leadership programs) that support both professional growth and community involvement.
