The Software Development Engineer II (SDE-2) will join the EKS Runtime Release team, focusing on designing, building, and operating systems for Amazon EKS's compute layer. This role involves managing the end-to-end AMI lifecycle, ensuring compliance with security standards, and enabling AI and ML workloads. The team is responsible for foundational infrastructure that supports millions of customers running containerized workloads. This position offers opportunities for technical leadership and collaboration with various AWS service teams.

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust
• Experience in Kubernetes, Docker, or the containers ecosystem
• Knowledge of and experience with cloud infrastructure technologies
• Experience in Linux/RHEL
• Experience with CloudFormation, Chef, Puppet, Salt, or Ansible in production environments
• Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced environment
• Experience in an operational role or working with data analytics

• Architect and implement the node-level runtime infrastructure for EKS compute.
• Own the operational health of the EKS runtime layer handling millions of customer workloads.
• Lead the design and implementation of complex node runtime features end-to-end.
• Work deeply with node-level Kubernetes components and container runtimes.
• Partner with various teams to deliver integrated solutions for customer workloads.
• Mentor junior engineers on systems programming and operational best practices.
• Drive improvements in AMI build and release pipelines and incident response processes.
• Identify opportunities to enable new GPU and accelerator technologies.
