The Amazon Search Navigation AI team is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to lead the architecture and delivery of large-scale, low-latency services that enhance Amazon's search experiences. This role involves working with applied scientists to implement innovations in large language models and ensuring the reliability and performance of the systems that serve these models. The engineer will also drive the engineering roadmap for new features and collaborate with various teams to optimize processes. The position requires a strong technical leader who is comfortable with ambiguity and has a high standard for engineering excellence.

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
• 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
• 5+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• Experience with Machine Learning and Large Language Model fundamentals
• Experience building real-time, low-latency ML or LLM inference systems at scale
• Experience building and operating large-scale distributed services

• Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of large-scale, distributed, low-latency services
• Own the technical direction for online LLM serving in Search Navigation
• Drive the engineering roadmap for Smart Refinement and multi-turn conversational refinement
• Build safe, reliable GenAI experiences with layered safeguards
• Partner with Applied Scientists, Product Managers, and Program Managers to define requirements
• Design and build scalable data pipelines for feature generation and model training
• Drive experimentation strategy and analyze online A/B experiments
• Own operational excellence for critical services, including P0 metrics and monitoring
• Lead cross-team initiatives and mentor engineers while raising the engineering bar
