Job description

As a System Development Engineer I at Amazon, you will enhance the development, testing, deployment, and operations of your team's systems. You will focus on building reliable and scalable systems while automating repetitive tasks to improve efficiency. The team values collaboration and continuous learning, providing a supportive environment for personal and professional growth. Your contributions will directly impact the quality and speed of the services delivered to customers.

Requirements

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
  • Experience with tools for automation including building, testing, releasing, or monitoring.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of the Python scripting language.
  • Experience with highly concurrent, high throughput systems and knowledge of complex distributed systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver software, tooling, and automation to improve system reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system failures by diagnosing root causes across hardware, software, and operating environments.
  • Write well-tested, logical, and maintainable code while seeking design and code reviews from peers.
  • Identify points of failure in managed systems and develop monitoring metrics and automated solutions.
  • Collaborate with teammates to improve documentation, runbooks, and operational processes.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
