Job description
The senior engineering role at Apple focuses on the development and integration of advanced AR/VR optical modules within the Display Module Technology team. This team is dedicated to creating innovative manufacturing processes that enhance Apple's optics technology. The position involves guiding projects from initial concept through to volume manufacturing, addressing complex technical challenges, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners. The role requires a strong background in optics and engineering to drive successful product outcomes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent job-related experience with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Experience in process development and integration for advanced optics/display modules, consumer electronics, or high-precision optical hardware.
- Experience leading Design for Manufacturability (DFM) initiatives from early architecture and concept phases through engineering validation builds.
- Demonstrated experience conducting root-cause failure analysis and defining corrective-action strategies for multi-variable manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Master's degree or PhD in an engineering discipline, Materials Science, Optics, or related field.
- In-depth technical experience developing assembly, integration, and packaging processes specifically for AR/VR display systems, micro-displays, or high-precision optical sub-assemblies.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a key technical focal point in the process development and integration of advanced AR/VR optical modules.
- Guide projects from early concept and architecture stages through product engineering validation builds.
- Drive the display or optical module process end to end, from proof-of-concept to volume manufacturing.
- Manage complex technical challenges across disciplines and align cross-functional teams with external manufacturing partners.
- Synthesize high-volume, ambiguous, or contradictory technical data to solve persistent engineering challenges.
- Achieve aggressive milestones and deliver breakthrough technical results under challenging circumstances.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
