Apple's Responsible AI and Safety team is seeking a leader with a strong background in Applied Research, particularly in machine learning and foundation models focused on responsibility, fairness, and safety. This role involves leading the Quality Platform Engineering function, ensuring fast and trustworthy safety signals for engineering teams across Apple. The position requires building a strong team culture and connecting Quality Platform Engineering with Product Evaluations and Research. The ideal candidate will be technically fluent and capable of making product recommendations in ambiguous situations.

• 5+ years of technical team management or leadership experience
• Experience with ML evaluation, production ML systems, or test/CI infrastructure at scale
• Strong engineering skills and experience writing production-quality code, preferably in Python or similar languages
• Experience working across multiple platforms or hardware form factors
• Experience working with human-labeled or crowd-sourced evaluation data
• Experience working on Responsible AI, AI safety, or trust & safety-adjacent engineering
• Experience with generative model evaluation and common failure modes
• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related field, or equivalent experience

• Lead the research and application of ML methods for technologies that enhance user experiences while maintaining Apple's values.
• Build and cultivate a strong team culture within the Quality Platform Engineering function.
• Establish connections between Quality Platform Engineering and Product Evaluations & Research.
• Provide fast safety signals and extend safety testing coverage across all Apple hardware platforms.
• Make product recommendations based on evaluation pipelines and production ML systems.
• Manage and develop technical teams to ensure high performance and effective collaboration.
